During the Second Sino-Japanese war, nurse Sakura (Ayako WAKAO) is assigned to the front. Her ideals are instantly put to the test: the wounded can hardly be treated and she has to fight off the attacks of morally corrupted soldiers. Only the drug-addicted doctor Okabe offers some solace. MASUMURA’s war movie foregoes depictions of battle scenes, conveying the horrors of war by the claustrophobic confined space of the field hospital.
