Nippon Animation
NIPPON ANIMATION presents outstanding works of Japanese animation. We are honored to welcome animation director Hiroyasu ISHIDA to the festival. ISHIDA will present PENGUIN HIGHWAY, his first animated feature film, as well as a selection of his earlier short films. LIZ AND THE BLUE BIRD is a moving portrait of friendship and OKKO’S INN tells a heartfelt coming-of-age story about grief and responsibility. Mamoru HOSODA’s MIRAI made headlines earlier this year by being one of the few Japanese animation films to receive a nomination for the Academy Awards. Two short film programs, TRANSIENCE - THE BEST OF RECENT INDIE ANIMATION und TOKYO UNIVERSITY OF THE ARTS: ANIMATION SHORTS, give an insight into Japan’s independent animation scene.
